Karangasem Regency is located in the east of Bali Island. It's commonly referred to as "The Spirit of Bali" since it is where the mother temple of Besakih and numerous other significant temples in Bali is situated.
Karangasem consists of close communities, villages, hamlets, and temples. Boasts a verdant scenery and is home to Mount Agung, Bali's largest active volcano. Today we would love to show you some of the most gorgeous temples that you have to visit when you’re in Karangasem.
Pura Besakih Temple
Besakih Temple is the largest Hindu temple in Bali. It has a lovely panorama from the top of the temple area, where you can see the magnificent natural scenery of the ocean, which attracts visitors from all around the world.
Besakih temple, known as the "mother temple" of Bali, is located well over 900 meters up Gunung Agung's slopes. Since the beginning of time, Bali has revered this location as sacred. There are a total of 18 distinct sanctuaries.
The three primary temples are Pura Kiduling Kreteg, devoted to Brahma, Pura Batu Madeg, dedicated to Wisnu, and Pura Penataran Agung, dedicated to Sang Hyang Widi Wasa. Each temple holds its odalan, or anniversary festival, and on the full moon of the Balinese month "Kedasa," the whole Besakih complex celebrates the gods' arrival with a massive crowd of people.
Lempuyang Gate of Heaven Temple
Pura Penataran Agung Lempuyang in Karangasem, Bali, is a favorite spot for posing at its Instagram-worthy gate. The area has been called the "gates of heaven" because it is so stunning. The majority of tourists are eager to visit the Gates Of Heaven to catch the amazing photo between the Candi Bentar (the gate).
A split gateway known as the Candi Bentar may be seen at practically all Balinese entrances to temple complexes. The center of these entrances is typically accessible through steps.

The temple is accessible to the public every day from 7 am to 5 pm, however, it is always open for worship. Depending on the season you visit, April through October are often the busiest months. However, if you arrive before sunrise, the temple is typically rather calm at any time of year, until the crowds arrive late in the morning. If you're not a morning person, the scenery is equally beautiful during the final hour before sunset.
Pura Candidasa
This Hindu temple is dedicated to Hariti, the goddess of fertility and rain offers an insight into Bali folklore. The temple is also known as the Temple of 10 Children since legend has it that Hariti was a barren lady eager to conceive who gave birth to ten children. Inside the temple, you might appreciate the beautiful sculptures that tell the goddess's story and the enchanting Balinese mythology.

Silayukti Temple
Silayukti Temple or as the locals know as Pura Silayukti is one of the most important Hindu temples, which is located in the Karangasem region, well-known for being rich in cultural traditions on the northeastern side of the bay of Padangbai in East Bali.
Devotees frequently travel to this sacred place to offer their prayers, and the area is dotted with several holy temples. The magnificent Pura Silayukti Temple was constructed in the 11th century and is dedicated to Mpu Kuturan, a spiritual figure who brought Bali's caste system and social structures.
Due to its proximity to the ocean, Pura Silayukti Temple is loved by tourists who come to enjoy the magnificent, expansive coastal landscapes. In particular, the sunrises and sunsets are beautiful.
